Congratulations to Velda Jones, Albemarle Hospital's Wellness Program Manager, on the production and sale of her first fitness DVD, titled VELDA - Very Energetic Light Dance Aerobics. The video was filmed in the Albemarle Family YMCA Aerobics Room, and also features three other Albemarle Hospital employees: Marie Hickman (Surgical Services), Charlie Bowe (Pastoral Care Volunteer), and Jessica Hedgepeth (Nuclear Medicine). Velda said her new DVD is made for everyone, regardless of their fitness level. "What makes this video unique is the fact that it is beginner-level, but all levels will benefit from it," she said. "The super easy choreography and its energy make it stand out. You will definitely sweat — and burn lots and lots of calories." Velda is a certified fitness specialist who has worked in the fitness industry for more than 20 years. Before becoming Albemarle Hospital's Wellness Coordinator, she was the first African-American fitness supervisor on the Sagafjord and Sea Goddess II, contracted through the Golden Door and Spa located in Escondido, CA. Velda was also a fitness model for NIKE's Side Out women's fitness apparel, and produced fundraisers in the San Francisco Bay Area called "Velda's Hip Hop Dance Party." She said her experiences in the fitness industry provided the desire to make her own workout DVD. Velda's said her DVD is a complete fitness program, that unlike other DVDs, provides a thorough workout for people of all skill levels. "I was motivated to do this video because teaching fitness classes is a passion of mine, and has been for over 20 years," she said. "I have always wanted to do this to help people reach their fitness goals. With this DVD, even if I cannot always be there physically, people can still get a great workout. People will come away from this knowing they just had a wonderful workout, and can reach their goal of being healthy and fit." Velda said she had as much fun making the DVD as people will have working out with it. In addition to taking advantage of the talents of Marie, Charlie, and Jessica, she had help from video producer Isaac Brothers, of Brothers Video Moments, and music producer Chris Morgan.
